Roger Moore sadly died on the 23rd of May at the age of 89, after a short battle with cancer. I figured that this thread should be made in tribute to him.
I should first note that while my favourite James Bond is and always will be Sean Connery, Moore is secure in his runner up position for me. He was a terrific Bond, even if the films he did greatly varied in quality and that he stayed a little too long. Without Moore, it is unlikely that the franchise would have been guaranteed its survival to the present day, and he proved that there was indeed life after Connery. By all accounts, the man himself was by all accounts extremely likeable with a natural wit. No doubt any fan who had the opportunity to meet him would treasure that experience.
Aside from Bond, he was also famous for his role on The Saint, which is admittedly a TV show I need to check out sometime.
What are your thoughts on the man himself, and what do you think is his best Bond film? For me, I have a soft spot for Live And Let Die and For Your Eyes Only....

Admittedly I've only seen one of Moore's Bond films, that being The Man With the Golden Gun. It was years ago that I saw it and while I do remember enjoying it, I'm hesitant to give it another try (though I will) especially given such stupid, ridiculous ideas like giving the villain a third nipple. As James 'The Angry Video Game Nerd' Rolf would put it, "what were they thinking". On the flip side of that I've been recommended many of these entries in the series as accidental comedies, the so bad it's good of bonds and given that Dr. Goodhead was one of the Bond girls during this era, I admittedly think I could get a few good laughs out of these, plus some of them are apparently legitimately good. All this aside, Moore as stated was a very funny man and that showed up in his films, even more so than with Connerry (who had a very subtle, dry sense of humour which was very effective but often served a backseat to the very seriously taken action). Had the movies gotten their huge comedy increase from letting Moore be himself rather than sending him into space and such, maybe they would have been better received.
With all this kept in mind, I actually think Moore was extremely ahead of his time. It's easy to see with Moore why Mike Meyers was so interested in the spy spoof, but Moore also predicted an entire generation of lighthearted action films. Commando, Lethal Weapon, Die Hard, all different varieties of comedically injected action films, and films have continued in that direction since. Moore is extremely under appreciated for being an innovator.
So while I'm no short on Moore of his time as a Bond I have seen some highlight reels and always liked the guy. May he R.I.P
