In the last year I've been slowly getting into the work of British comedy duo Mitchell and Webb and teaching BluesyThug of their sick sadistic ways. I've been a fan of David Mitchell for a couple years now when I first saw him on Would I Lie To You?, a panel show hosted by Angus Deaton and later Rob Brydon (the latter of which also starred alongside Steve Coogan as himself in the brilliant The Trip). The basic gist is that there are two teams and each tell a story that is either fact or fiction and the opposite team has to guess what it is. Mitchell and Lee Mack are the two recurring panel contestants amongst other Meuse guests and Mitchell's self conciously posh yet eccentric persona always got a laugh out of me. I later saw his collaborator Robert Webb in the terrible Absoluteky Fabulous: The Movie and the fairly mediocre renewal of 90s dramatic sitcom Cold Feet from last year to which I was unimpressed but not particularly disliking of him either. This all changed when I started watching Mitchell and Webb's POV cam sitcom Peep Show.
Peep Show pulled me in very slowly making me laugh but struggle with the unique cinematography and internal monologues. It's a jarring style but I was still fascinated and participated in a few meme wars with BluesyThug that included Peep Show gifs. By the fourth episode I was hooked. Not only was I used to the style but Mitchell and Webb are so constantly hilarious as the idiotic man children sharing flats together that I couldn't turn away. It's been the biggest joy in my life entertainment wise since I first got into Tom Waits, and I just finished series 6 (there are 9 series) after only a couple months. There are so many classic moments, lines, and character development that I can't even begin to get into but if you don't like cringe humour chances are it's not for you.
I also have seen the first episode of That Mitchell and Webb Look, the last of several sketch comedies they did before Peep Show and the series that launched them. I loved it but I'm gonna finish Peep Show before I carry on with that.
So any Peep Show fans out there? Any other great Mitchell and Webb shows worth checking out? Let me know.

Two seasons in and loving the Peep Show. Hard to sympathise with any main character however.... maybe Sophie, for being surrounded by such twats and morons? But even then she still goes out with Jeff, who's just an all round prick.

Even The Office had Tim and Dawn as generally redeemable characters, and the US version is obviously much more optimistic. Peep Show on the other hand is just terrible people being terribly vain but much like other shows in its vain it's hard not to grow a fondness for them despite their obvious faults.

Season 7 is great. The best since season 4. The Christmas episode in particular is classic

"Alright let's crack on" "Jez. Don't say crack. It'll make me want crack because I love crack"
"What you smoking Super Hans" "Just a bit of crack" "Crack?" "Relax, it's not blue peter, just a nice relaxing bit of crack"
"Boy I tell you that crack is really morish".
Super Hans' escalating crack addiction offers some of my favourite lines ha ha

Just finished Peep Show. Mixed feelings on the very last episode but great stuff all in all. One of my favourite shows i've ever watched.

Getting into That Mitchell and Webb Look. It's nowhere near Peeo Show but still very funny. Sketches like Numberwang (a game show where people yell numbers that make no sense) and particularly the running joke throughout episode one with the two playing nazis are absolute gold. My favourite however is The Surprising Adventures of (Me) Sir Dyby Chicken Ceaser. It's literally about an alcoholic homeless man scheming up plots and it's just wonderfully odd. What's great about the show is the characters you meet. Some of these characters are good enough to have their own show, they're just that memorable. I do feel the two are better suited to sitcoms but this is a very entertaining show that is very easy to just out in and half pay attention to, half do other things.

"It's the surprising adventures of me" This is still genius.

Probably my other favourite sketch. Wonderfully absurd.

Probably my other favourite sketch. Wonderfully absurd. The fuck did I just watch? Sophie and Johnson on a ridiculous maths quiz show hosted by Jeremy with Mark spinning around..,...

Yeah i guess it's making fun of how stupid game shows are or something but it makes absolutely no sense. Really funny though. What did you think of Sir Digby Chicken Ceaser?

Kinda sad to see Robert Webb's thinning hair, and I certainly much prefer David Mitchell without facial hair - though him with a stubble is fucking hilarious. That said, I'm greatly looking forward to this new sitcom
