The film counterpart to the albums thread.... for me I have watched in recent times: I love the multiple Alan Partridge shows but am yet to see the film. Weird how Netflix excludes the "alpha papa" part of the title. Annie Hall is great as well and I really like the remake of Ocean's 11. I recently saw La La Land. Loved it

Also starting to regret not seeing La La Land, given the rave reviews it's been getting not know from critics but from many of my friends

I doubt you'd hate it or anything, but I think I know you pretty well and i'd say it's not your kind of film. Maybe stay open minded with it though, there are moments you'd certainly appreciate, specifically the stuff about the evolution of jazz.

Glad you revived this thread. I completely forgot about it. Will update next time I watch a film.

Trainspotting - Combining high art and low art to portray a horrifyingly disturbing yet often darkly funny example of heroin addiction that never says whether heroin is good or bad, but merely shows it for what it is. A toxic substance that relieves pain and depression in many due to his effects of pure nirvana and positivity but also has a dangerous downside to its after effects. If you think I'm describing The Velvet Underground's "Heroin", well think again. This is a film that I can not begin to describe. Left me in a state of shock and awe with its themes that ultimately were very open to interpretation and it's jokes that tap into something primal and it's atmosphere that I will never forget.
Sunset Boulevard - Another deep one. Eloquent dialogue from a script that seems to be touched by the hand of God and acting that is as subtle as it is impassioned. What I love most his cold, bone chilling and mysterious atmosphere that builds to an unforgettable climax. It's a very slow moving film but a damn good one and its influence on later filmmakers particularly David Lynch, is incredibly evident.

Evil Dead 2: Brilliantly built suspense that is frequently brought to a holt by well-crafted yet ridiculously unconvincing special effects and hilariously goofy comedy. You don't know whether to laugh or be terrified. (rewatch) Mullholland Drive: Lynch is a master. Makes more sense on a second viewing too. The Graduate: Slow paced and of it's time and for that reason it kind of bores me but still a good movie with some great moments. Monsters University: It's okay. Some good lessons for kids and adults at the end but generally kind of boring. Dunkirk: Wow. Just got back from the cinema and am short of breath. Excellent film.

Just saw War for the Planet of the Apes. Even though I haven't seen the middle chapter in the trilogy I still followed along okay and the film itself was excellent. Never knew i'd feel so compassionately towards a bunch of talking apes.
