How else can you call him. He was one of the most wonderful guitarists I've ever heard, and his singing was great as well (actually his vocals on the early material are out of this world, but I find that his voice started deterioriating in the 60s).
I've seen him three times in concert (lucky!) and on the first gig while throwing "stuff" into the audience he spotted me, probably the youngest member of the audience, and ordered one of the guys from the crew to give me a guitar pick (lucky!!). He was close to 80 the last time I saw him but still very much at the top of his game - I didn't witness what happened to his performances in later years, and in retrospect I'm glad I didn't. I want to remember him for the great music he's written and recorded during what has been an incredibly long-lasting career.
While I love lots of blues guitarists, he just seemed to make that thing sing in a way few others could. I've got more CDs by him than by any other artist or band, and I'm still missing a lot of his catalog.
(love this comment: "It's very difficult to play like Malmsteen, Steve Vai ou Michael Batio. But it's impossible to play like B.B. King." Well, I do try from time to time...)

Interesting you mention Yngwie as a solo of his was covered by B.B once. I like Yngwje, his time is exciting and he writes great songs. However he doesn't have a whole lot of variety as a guitarist. B.B covered him just as technically proficiently but with tons more soul. The man was insane

BB King's amazing, and I must admit I'm incredibly jealous that you got to see him live. That said, there's a lot of competition for the title of "King Of The Blues".... Muddy Waters is certainly one, as is Howlin' Wolf and Robert Johnson.....

Muddy Waters is certainly one, as is Howlin' Wolf and Robert Johnson..... All legends of course. I don't think the Wolf or Muddy had as much variety in their music (though BB could also be samey at times), and there's just something about BB that makes me agree with the title even if it may have started as a marketing gimmick. Have you read Buddy Guy's autobiography? It seems that BB is about the only one he doesn't have anything bad to say about. And that doesn't mean he didn't like Muddy (who was almost like a father for him), Wolf, Albert King and all the other greats he's met over the years, but they all seemed to have rather unpleasant sides to their personalities. BB, whenever I read about him, comes across as generous and humble, and I think that also shows in his approach to the blues. I've actually recorded the 2004 and 2005 gigs with my lil' portable cassette recorder! Though whether the tapes are still in any good shape I dunno. I sorta drifted away from him after that (when I discovered the wonders of rock music...) but I rediscovered him about a year before he died, through the early recordings (of which I only had a few before). I can only recommend the Ace remasters of the early albums, they sound good and have great bonus tracks!
