Maybe I'm being a bit too harsh. Okay I'm definitely being too harsh. But the two long tracks that bookend this album always felt unfinished to me. The rest is good though but it's such a short track listing that AHM ends up being a fairly mediocre affair. What does everyone else think of AHM?

If you think about it, the album's probably their most purely prog album that they ever did. That said, I will have to agree with you that the longer tracks (as well as Fat Old Sun, which does nothing for me) really mark down the album

I can see why Roger Waters, other Floyd members, and maybe a decent handful of fans have put down an album like Atom Heart Mother. Whilst it isn't as strange as the Ummagumma Studio in the experimental stages, Atom Heart Mother still had a bit of strangeness to it's opening track, and it's closer song. I enjoy all the other tracks in the middle as it also more of those early Pink Floyd Folk (Rock) vibes into this blend of experimental, symphonic, classical-ish and psychedelic. This album was one of those where the more i listened to it, the more i enjoyed it, and is on my vinyl wishlist. All in all, i have lot of respect for Atom Heart Mother.

Probably the album that best deserves the middle tier position in the Floyd discography

I love that album, aside from the god-awful Alan's Psychadelic Mess of a Breakfast, I thought all the tracks were very strong. The title track was epic, although it did get a bit too long and the middle part with the chorus shouting was admittedly slightly weird, it was at least experimental and I felt the overall song worked. The other songs were all very good in their own manners. Fat Old Sun, I didn't enjoy too much tbh. I liked Gilmour's singing part and the guitar, but whenever it gets to that "How do you feeeeeel" part, it just completley ruins the mood that the song initially set up. As for "If", very strong emotional delivery by Waters I find and has a lot of memorable lyrics but I will admit that it gets a bit repetitive and boring if you listen to it a lot of times.

Don't take it so literally W E L L T H E N What? All I said was a piece of music sounded quite unfinished. Doesn't mean they didn't finish composing it.

I mean Trespass wipes the floor with AHM, and that was just the beginning. Fat Old Sun live is a million times better than the sleepy studio version. I liked it in Wiesbaden, but the guitar sounded much too noisy - DG overdid it with trying to make the song rock. The Remember That Night version is sublime. Only Summer '68 would make a personal compilation.

I'd agree that Summer '68 is by far the strongest track, though If is great as well.

I've got all the Yes classics (hooray for cheap box sets!) but my Genesis collection is still woefully incomplete, funnily enough. I find If a bit bland to be honest. Though I do like that line about going insane - obviously a Brain Damage precursor.
