Okay, I'll admit I don't know much about the movie, but know that I at least tried to watch it but I was so offended by the 20 minute mark I just quit. I really felt it was honestly pretty stupid, kind of like YouTube pranks but without any of the fun. I'm not exactly sure what kind of satire it wanted to push upon the audience.
As for cultural map, 1. Kazakhstan is the 9th largest nation in the world, kind of hard to miss if you have an eye. 2. Kazakhstan's real culture is very different from the one shown in Borat, so I doubt people would want to visit the nation. They didn't even take time to research Kazakh, and when Borat says hello, he says "Jag siez masz", which is POLISH. Hell, they didn't even get the name of the country right and mashed random keys on the Cyrillic keyboard.
How's that culturally appropriate? Be honest, would you visit Kazakhstan after seeing that movie?

Hell, most people I know have the geographical skills of a Prep student. Unless something happens which puts a nation on the map culturally, most people would have no idea what it is. Hell, even not try going out to the street and ask random people if they know much about Kazakhstan - take note of their responses

Well... they were portrayed as happy, content, living the simple life They're also portrayed as being very underdeveloped when that's not the case, just take a look at the capital.

I don't think Cohen meant any harm with the misappropriation of Kazakhstan. He was merely criticising racist people and the widespread racism in America and used an extreme example of racism to fight that. I find it to be pretty well made as a satire, though some scenes just make me cringe at their lack of quality. It's a bit of fun that in its own weird way preaches tolerance. Those who criticised Kazakhstan after seeing it were morons who didn't understand the point of the film and would probably have a low opinion of the country even if the film didn't exist.

Exactly, so shouldn't we blame it on general ignorance instead? Besides, as "insulting" as the OP claims Borat is to Kazakhstan, I think it's a marvellous, uplifting portrayal in comparison to say, the United States in Idiocracy

Yea, I understand. Although it's definatley a shame that his "good, satirical" idea was transformed into a watered-down elementary comedy movie that, at first glance, looks like it has absolutley nothing solid to offer other than sex jokes. As for people who didn't understand the movie, I'd honestly say that even if they hated the movie they should probably be educated enough to know that that probably wasn't a good representation of the country. Funny story, in one video called "What Foreigners Know About Kazakhstan", they asked this one British-Asian girl and the first thing that she said was "Borat". Smh.

Compared that with the US, which a lot of people already know the positives and negatives of.

I dunno, I find that it's a lot more than an elementary comedy, i'm not a big fan of it and even I see a lot of the really smart points. For example pretending to be bad at english when trying to say "war on terror" but instead saying "war of terror" and having the americans cheer is brilliant, given a lot of people (including myself) saw the Iraq war is brutal and unnecessary. That's pretty smart stuff.

Because organizations like NATO essentially are a group of America's allies, which is another way of saying "countries that feed America's war-filled ego". In the east, of course they hate the US more than love them, but that's due to historical reasons.

I will say that I loved the "Throw the Jew Down the Well" part, and all the redneck/cowboys started cheering lol. It also wasn't that bad of a song.

But once again, Kazakhstan is not an anti-semitic country or anything...

I think I brought up this point like a million times, there were 3,400 reported Jewish Kazakhstanis in 2009, which should show how tolerant they are. In fact the president visited the Synagouge at Astana and talked with the Rabbi. I hope you think that "Running of the jew" isn't a real thing.
